Oh, Peanuts and Cracker Jack!
We received an e-mail at work on Tuesday about a drawing to throw out the first pitch at the Pirate game Friday. I entered for the hell of it, thinking I’d never win. I even joked around with my co-workers about what I would do if I did win.
So.
When I got to work the next day, there was an e-mail printed and taped to my computer, proclaiming, Congratulations Andrea!
“You guys,” I said, “Come on. Stop messing with me!”
Then I checked my e-mail and I had a million congrats e-mails.
The most unathletic girl in the world is going to throw a baseball in front of hundreds of people. I would say thousands, but the Pirates have lost the past 17 seasons, there’s a Pens playoff game that night, and it’s supposed to rain, so there probably won’t be as many people as if there was nothing else going on. Still! I’m excited and nervous. I threw around a ball today in the work parking lot. I have to remember that to swing my arm back and follow through, because I want to lob it like a girl, as they say.
As long as I throw better than Charlie Brown and Mariah Carey, I shouldn’t embarrass myself too badly.

Let’s hope that if a mascot escorts you to the hill he doesn’t try to cop a feel like Mariah!
Comment on April 16, 2010 12:04 amHAHA RIGHT ON! Make sure to practice! A good tip my dad always taught me is to point with your other hand where you want the ball to go, leave your arm outstretched and throw.. generally hits the mark when you do!
Comment on April 16, 2010 12:04 amHooray! What are the odds that someone tech-savvy will be recording the moment for posterity?
Good luck!

Comment on April 16, 2010 11:37 pmthat’s hilarious and awesome. my dad was tapped to throw out the first pitch of an indians’ game in 1998, and despite his shyness and general unathletic-ness, he had a fantastic time. i’m sure you’ll do great
hopefully we’ll see some video!

Comment on April 20, 2010 01:10 pmAndrea! No update since this post? I hope you haven’t gone into hiding after a bad pitch. I’m a loyal reader, even if I’ve only commented once or twice, and I’ve been thinking about this post. Hope it went well.
